5 truths about blepharoplasty: discover when it is the ideal time to have this eyelid surgery

5 truths about blepharoplasty: discover when it is the ideal time to have this eyelid surgery

Blepharoplasty is one of the most requested cosmetic surgeries to rejuvenate the eyes. Find out what you should know before having it done.

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is an increasingly popular cosmetic procedure for those who wish to rejuvenate their eyes in a lasting and natural way. If you notice drooping eyelids, excess skin or bags under your eyes, you may have wondered if this surgery is for you.

In this article we tell you 5 key truths about blepharoplasty and, above all, when is the best time to perform it, based on our experience in our aesthetic medicine clinic in Badalona and Barcelona.

1. Blepharoplasty is not only a cosmetic surgery

Although many people resort to blepharoplasty for aesthetic reasons, the truth is that this procedure can also have functional benefits. In advanced cases, excess skin in the upper eyelids can affect the field of vision, make it difficult to apply makeup or cause a facial expression of constant fatigue.

An upper blepharoplasty can significantly improve the quality of life of these patients, in addition to providing a fresher and more natural result in the face.

2. There are different types of blepharoplasty

Not all blepharoplasties are the same. There are three main types:

  • Upper blepharoplasty: removes excess skin and fat from the upper eyelid.
  • Lower blepharoplasty: corrects bags and sagging under the eyes.
  • Complete blepharoplasty: combines both techniques for a comprehensive rejuvenation of the eyes.

The choice will depend on the personalized medical assessment, which we always perform in our clinics in Badalona and Barcelona.

3. There is no exact age for blepharoplasty

One of the most frequently asked questions is, “At what age is blepharoplasty recommended?”
The reality is that there is no fixed age, as it all depends on genetic factors, skin aging and lifestyle. The important thing is to evaluate if there is excess skin, marked bags or a tired look expression that affects your self-esteem or functionality.

4. Scars are minimal and discreet.

One of the greatest fears of patients is the visibility of scars. But a well-performed blepharoplasty leaves scars almost invisible, since they are placed in natural folds of the eyelid or just below the lower lash line. In addition, following a good postoperative care protocol, recovery is usually fast and progressive.

5. The results are long lasting, but not eternal.

Blepharoplasty has results that can last for many years, especially if the patient maintains healthy habits and takes care of his or her skin. However, it is important to understand that the natural aging of the face continues, so in some cases retouching may be required after many years. Even so, the aesthetic improvement is clear and noticeable from the first months after surgery.

When is the ideal time to have a blepharoplasty?

If your eyes are dull, with excess skin, bags or drooping eyelids, and you want an effective and lasting solution, this may be the right time. In our aesthetic medicine clinic in Badalona and Barcelona, we offer a complete medical evaluation to determine whether upper, lower or complete blepharoplasty is what you need.

Goodbye to droopy eyelids: this is how blepharoplasty transforms your look.

The most effective cosmetic treatment to rejuvenate the eye area.

With the passage of time, facial skin loses firmness, and one of the first areas where this change becomes evident is in the eyes. Excess skin on the eyelids and the appearance of bags of fat under the eyes can give a tired, sad or aged appearance. For this reason, more and more people are opting for blepharoplasty, a cosmetic surgery that visibly and lastingly improves the appearance of the eye contour.

Why do eyes age first?

The skin around the eyes is extremely thin and in constant movement due to daily gesticulation. In addition, more than 20 facial muscles are concentrated in this small area, which increases the appearance of wrinkles, sagging and signs of fatigue. These factors, added to the passage of time and hormonal changes, such as menopause, make drooping eyelids and bags under the eyes one of the main aesthetic concerns for both women and men.

What is blepharoplasty and how does it work?

Blepharoplasty is a minimally invasive surgery that removes excess skin, fat and, in some cases, muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. The objective is to rejuvenate the look and restore freshness and luminosity to the face without modifying the natural expression.

Depending on the patient's needs, upper, lower or combined blepharoplasty can be performed. The best of all is that the results are visible in a short time, lasting and with a generally fast postoperative period.

At what age is this procedure recommended?

Although it is common for this surgery to be performed after the age of 50, especially in women who have gone through menopause, it is also common in younger patients who have a genetic predisposition to eyelid drooping or the early appearance of bags. There is no “ideal” age, but it depends on the degree of affectation and the aesthetic goals of each person.

Benefits of blepharoplasty

  • Complete rejuvenation of the look
  • Elimination of excess skin in upper and lower eyelids
  • Reduction of fat bags that give a tired appearance
  • Natural and lasting results
  • Improved self-esteem and personal well being

Top 3 mistakes to avoid before plastic surgery: expert advice

Top 3 mistakes to avoid before plastic surgery: expert advice

If you are thinking about plastic surgery, avoid these common mistakes that can affect your results. We tell you what every patient should know.

Having plastic surgery is an important decision that can improve your well-being, self-esteem and quality of life. However, the success of any procedure depends not only on the surgeon, but also on you as a patient.

In our aesthetic medicine clinic in Badalona and Barcelona, we accompany dozens of patients every month on their way to a safe and satisfactory transformation. Therefore, today we share with you the 3 most common mistakes to avoid before plastic surgery, and how to properly prepare for your intervention.

1. Relying on surgery as a method for weight loss

One of the most common mistakes we see in consultation is believing that plastic surgery -such as liposuction or abdominoplasty- is a way to lose weight. The reality is that these procedures are intended to improve body contour in patients who have already reached a healthy and stable weight.

Plastic surgery is not a substitute for diet and exercise.

If you are overweight or obese, it is recommended that you first work on reaching your ideal weight with healthy habits. This not only improves aesthetic results, but also reduces surgical risks and facilitates a faster and safer recovery.

2. Not informing the surgeon about medical history or habits.

Another common mistake is to hide relevant information in the preoperative consultation. Some people do not mention that they take certain medications, supplements or that they smoke, not knowing that these details can put their health at risk during surgery.

At CIME, we perform a complete medical evaluation before any intervention. But it is vital that the patient cooperates with complete sincerity. Tobacco use, for example, increases the risk of healing complications, and some medications can interfere with anesthesia or increase bleeding.

Remember: safety first.

3. Compare results with other people

Every body is unique. One of the most damaging mistakes is to come to a consultation with unrealistic expectations based on social media photos or other people's results. Your anatomy, skin type, age and proportions are different, and that defines what results you can achieve.

In our cosmetic surgery clinic in Barcelona and Badalona, we focus on designing 100% personalized plans, where naturalness and harmony are the priority. A well indicated plastic surgery does not change who you are, but enhances the best of you.

Conclusion: Information and preparation are key.

Avoiding these mistakes before plastic surgery can make the difference between a good result and a frustrating experience. Choosing a serious clinic, with qualified professionals and comprehensive support, is essential to feel safe at all times.

At Clínica CIME we have a team specialized in plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine in Badalona and Barcelona, committed to your health, your safety and your well-being.

10 questions of the Intragastric Balloon (BIG)

From our Health Coaching, we made the selection of the 10 most frequently asked questions about Intragastric Balloon (BIG) treatment.

Plastic Surgery

Blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery at CIME Clinic

In this article, we will talk about everything we need to know about this intervention, its procedure, and its recovery.

Eyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty is an operation to correct excess skin and fat bags of the eyelids and that our eyes do not feel tired and aged. As the years go by these tissues relax and this feeling becomes more accentuated.

Like many other interventions, it can be combined with others to have better results such as bag surgery, to eliminate facial wrinkles or sagging faces. It is a simple and brief operation with very long-lasting results.

PROCESS

It can be performed with local anesthesia or sedation, while the patient is awake but with the sleeping area, or, if the doctor considers it necessary, general anesthesia could be used.

What is done in this surgery is simply to eliminate the excess skin of the eyelid to eliminate that effect of a sad and tired look, and, if necessary, the eye bags will also be removed, so that we will remove that effect of eye swelling.

Regarding the lower eyelids, which is the area of the bags, it can be done in two different ways:

  • The first is externally through the eyelids, with a small scar that we close with a very thin and almost negligible suture where we take out the fat bags and at the same time we have a tensor effect.
  • Or internally, which is also through the eyelid but in the area inside and also there we remove the bag, inside does not leave a visible scar and no points are needed since that area heals very well alone.

The duration of this intervention is usually between approximately thirty and sixty minutes.

RECOVERY

The recovery of this operation is simple, the next day we can go home, being able to incorporate into our working life from the 5th day approximately, but all this may vary depending on the evolution and opinion of the doctor. After a few days that the area is deflated, what we will achieve is to eliminate the effect of tiredness and aging, giving the look a younger and healthier look and making the eyes look bigger.

If you have any questions about this intervention, please contact our medical team via email info@clinica-cime.com or phone 937 063 850.

Facial lipofilling or fat filling

Autumn is one of the best times to face surgery and start our set-up. The most demanded surgeries at this time are all those aimed at reshaping our body contour, be it, liposuction, tummy tuck, etc.

Plastic Surgery

The Facelift or Rhytidectomy

The facelift or rhytidectomy is a surgical intervention to repair skin that ages over the years. This is due among others to prolonged exposure to the sun or stress. The areas where this aging is most noticeable is on the face and neck where the furrows and folds cause definition to be lost.

The facelift does not take away years but it helps to improve the appearance and restore light and tone to the skin, giving an effect of vitality and rejuvenation.

For this intervention there are different ways to perform it, so the day we come to speak with the surgeon he will advise us which would be the ideal for our specific case.

Before the operation, a thorough medical examination is essential to rule out any type of contraindication to treatment. The plastic surgeon will give us a step by step for both before and after and will inform us of all the relevant aspects of the intervention so that we are calm.

It is very important that on the first visit you notify the surgeon of your habits such as smoking, regularly ingesting alcohol, some medication, ...

This surgical intervention can be performed both with local anesthesia or sedation and in more delicate patients that the operation is more complex, general anesthesia could be used. Depending on the area you want to work on or the complementary techniques, the surgical process may vary.

It is performed in a single intervention and consists of repositioning the muscle, skin and fat layers to be able to eliminate the passage of time with incisions in the earlobe, around it and in the scalp to make the scar as concealed as possible since in this way it is hidden. If what is going to work is the neck area, this incision is made under the chin.

Not only is it a surgical operation that improves skin level, by working on bone, muscle and fat structures, a more natural and lasting result is achieved.

The postoperative period is not painful and with analgesics possible discomforts are avoided, in just a couple of weeks you will be able to return to your daily routine.

Will I be able to breastfeed after a breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation surgery usually generates multiple and diverse questions in our patients: types of prostheses, positioning of scars, where to place the prostheses, recovery time and possibility of breastfeeding after surgery, the latter question being especially decisive for some women.

The simplest answer is YES, however, like everything in medicine, things are not in black or white, but rather we move in gray scales: everything will depend on the surgical techniques we use.

If it is necessary to correct problems that involve cuts in the gland itself (tuberous breasts, sagging breasts or large asymmetries that require unilateral reductions), this could interfere with future breastfeeding.

My preferred approach to enable breastfeeding without problems is through the submammary groove, since in this way I avoid coming into contact with the gland, it does not alter its anatomy and also reduces the chances of a capsular contracture.

Are you considering increasing the size of your breasts? Allow me to solve your doubts in the most understandable way. Request your personalized consultation.

Facial filler with own fat - Lipofilling

One of the latest advances in cosmetic surgery is facial fillers with own fat (Lipofilling).

This technique has already been used in reconstructive surgery to correct breast neoplasia sequelae, congenital malformations, ... Seeing the good results and the duration of the transplanted fat, the field has been opening up in the world of aesthetics (especially facial).

Over the years our face has a loss of volume (especially in the cheekbones area) and a deepening of facial wrinkles (nasolabial folds, perioral area, ...). Given this situation, hyaluronic acid fillers have been the biggest trend in recent times. The results are very good, providing a natural look, but their biggest drawback is that they have a limited duration.

The Lipofilling (or fat filling) aims to recover the lost facial volumes with a longer duration since the injected tissue is our own fat. The technique is simple and can be performed under local anesthesia (if large volumes are required, sedation may be required). Fat tissue can be obtained from various areas (depending on the patient) for example: abdomen, cartridge belts, ... It is processed in a centrifuge to obtain purer fat and injected into the affected areas with an atraumatic cannula.

Another benefit of fat is due to its high content of stem cells, it provides an improvement in the quality of the skin.

This procedure can be used as a complement to other facial surgeries (lifting, blepharoplasty, ...)

Questions and Answers About Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia can be a real psychological problem for men who suffer from it, generating insecurity, stress and in some cases limiting their social life. In this blog I will try to solve the main your doubts on the subject:

What is Gynecomastia?

All men have a minimal amount of mammary gland behind our areolas. The presence of a greater amount of this tissue and the consequent feminization of the thorax is what is considered a true gynecomastia, however, in some cases the breasts change their appearance due to an increase in non-mammary fatty tissue, constituting a pseudogynecomastia.

Should I be worried?

In the vast majority of cases, no. Breast cancer in men is extremely rare, however, it must be ruled out by mammography / ultrasound.

What is its cause?

- Idiopathic (most cases)

- Toxic Medicamentosa (Alcohol, marijuana, anabolics, corticosteroids, diuretics, etc.)

- Hormonal alterations

- Congenital pathologies

When is gynecomastia normal?

Gynecomastia can be physiological in newborns due to the passage of maternal estrogens to the child; In adolescents due to hormonal changes typical of puberty; In the elderly, due to muscle atrophy added to the collection of fatty deposits.

Should I have an exam?

It is advisable to perform a mammogram, breast ultrasound and levels of human chorionic gonadotropin in the blood preoperatively.

How to treat it?

Depending on its type, you can opt for resection of the gland by cutting around the areola, liposuction of fatty tissue, or combined procedures with or without resection of the excess skin.

And the postoperative?

The pain is usually mild to moderate and easily controlled with oral pain relievers. Avoid sunbathing. A compression bandage should be worn for at least a first month, the same time for which torso exercises should not be performed. In liposuction, you can return to work (if it does not involve physical efforts) after a couple of days of rest. In the case of glandular or dermoglandular resections, usually a week of rest should be maintained.

Breast augmentation: Capsular contracture

Capsular contracture is one of the problems that most worries women who want to undergo breast augmentation or who already wear breast prostheses. That is why at Clínica CIME we want to explain what it consists of, and answer your questions.

What is it really?

When a breast implant is placed, like any other implant (pacemaker, osteoarticular prostheses, ...), the body reacts by creating an internal scar that covers it completely, this is the so-called capsule. This reaction is nothing abnormal and it happens in everyone.

This scar follows an evolution, like all external and internal body scars, becoming fully mature after 6-12 months.

The most common is that the capsule is soft and thin, without implying any aesthetic alteration on the placed breast implant.

The prostheses that are usually used today have a textured or rough surface favoring the good evolution of the periprosthetic capsule. This happens because the union between the implant and the body tissue is favored.

If the capsule created is thick, hard, etc. (it happens exceptionally in 1% of cases) is what plastic surgeons call capsular contracture. This fact does not pose any danger to the health of the person, which if it can cause aesthetic distortions or annoying pain on the affected breast.

What can we do to fix it?

The first thing we must do is go to our plastic surgeon to find the most convenient solution in our case. If the contracture is very annoying, it may require a new surgical intervention, but do not panic because this procedure is very simple. It consists of removing the capsule and replacing the prosthesis.

In case it happens again, there is a type of breast prosthesis with a micropolyurethane cover that favors good healing, these would be indicated in case of repeated contractures.
