At Clínica CIME we started a new type of treatment: cryolipolysis.

What is cryolipolysis?

Cryolipolysis is a technique for removing fat through cold. Its own name indicates it: "cryo" means cold and "lipolysis" is what the destruction of fat is called. In this new technique we will use controlled cooling technology to eliminate localized soft fat.

A treatment for localized soft fat

As we mentioned, cryolipolysis is indicated only to treat areas with localized soft fat.

In our body there are different types of fat:

- Hard fat:

Hard fat is more common in men, it is the most difficult type of fat to remove since it is concentrated mainly in the deeper fat areas of the abdomen and between the organs.

- Soft fat:

Soft fat is more common among women, it penetrates especially in the thighs and hips and is found in the area immediately after the skin, it is an outer layer than hard fat.

Apart from the type of fat, it is very possible that patients also have fluid retention. When we start treatment with cryolipolysis, it is important to work these retentions first through drainage, pressotherapy or radiofrequency to eliminate the retentions and that the cold treatment acts directly on the soft fat, in this way we will obtain an optimal result of the treatment.

How does cryolipolysis remove fat?
Cryolipolysis makes use of freezing to eliminate fat cells, adipocytes.

It is a technique developed in the USA. Medical studies have shown that when we apply low temperatures to subcutaneous fat, adipocytes become vulnerable and stop working. A natural cell death occurs and the body begins a process of elimination of fat cells through the lymphatic system, without causing damage to the skin or other tissues.

Adipocytes are limited cells in the body, once they die they are not generated again, therefore as we perform sessions we will see a remarkable result in the fat areas that we are treating.

Quick results without surgery

Cryolipolysis is a non-invasive treatment, therefore it is a simple and effective alternative to liposuction or lipolaser that allows us to avoid the discomfort of surgery and a postoperative period.

In addition, it is a technique with very fast results. The improvements begin to be visible 15 days after the session and 6 weeks later we will be able to see the real result of the session, it is necessary to wait for the body to make the process of eliminating the destroyed adipocytes in a definitive way. Once these 6 weeks have passed we can perform a new session achieving definitive results with only 3 or 4 sessions due to its high effectiveness. Fat cells are organized in layers, therefore as we perform sessions we will eliminate deeper layers and we will achieve greater elimination.

The treatment can be performed on both men and women to eliminate unwanted fat from the abdomen, outer thighs, flanks or even the fat that forms on the back at the height of the arms.

What does the treatment consist of?

The cryolipolysis session consists of placing a suction plate on the area to be treated and then applying cold.

The first thing we will do is put an antifreeze membrane over the area to protect the patient's skin from the low temperatures that we are going to apply, and on top of this we place the suction and cold plate. The plate creates a strong suction cup effect on the body that causes adipocytes to rise and separate from muscles and organs. Once we have done the suction, we begin to apply cold to the area. Cryolipolysis can be worked in an interval between 2ºC and -8ºC, only medical centers such as CIME Clinic can work from -2ºC. The freezing effect is localized, therefore we will only affect the cells in one area without affecting the rest.

Before starting the cryotherapy treatment, a medical visit is made in which we evaluate the type of fat of each patient, we must make sure that it is soft fat to guarantee a successful result with the application of cold. If the area has retentions or another type of fat, we will carry out complementary treatments before cryolipolysis.

Discomfort and post-treatment

The cryolipolisis session is painless, the only sensation we notice is the discomfort produced by the suction of the plaque, which is no longer noticeable immediately due to the sedative effect of the cold.

After the session we can continue with the usual rhythm of life without noticing discomfort, the only side effects that can occur after a Cryotherapy session are redness of the skin due to suction and small bruises that disappear in a very short time. Although it is advisable to accompany it with a balanced diet and physical exercise.

Remember that in the first medical visit you can come to find out about the cryolipolysis treatment and we will analyze the areas you want to treat to confirm that it is suitable for you.
